Beautiful Maroon Lake In Colorado

Maroon Lake, ColoradoMaroon Lake (9,585 ft) is an alpine lake at the center of the Maroon Bells Scenic Area. This is a lake just outside the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness accessed at the end of Maroon Creek Road in Colorado.
This area is known as the most photographed place in Colorado!
Maroon Lake sits in a beautiful, natural splendor below the towering 14,000-foot Maroon Bells. There is a 1.7-mile nature loop that goes around the lake.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, the mountains received their distinctive maroon coloring from the weathering of hematite, an iron-bearing mineral, while Maroon Lake occupies a basin that was sculpted by Ice-Age glaciers.
Maroon Lake, ColoradoFrom Aspen, take Hwy. 82 to the roundabout on the west edge of town, choose the exit for Maroon Creek Road and keep going about 4.7 miles until you reach a welcome station. If you’re coming from Glenwood Springs, take Hwy. 82 south toward Aspen until you reach the roundabout.
